Kenny Huolshof voted for Medicare Part D. In doing so, he required individuals to pay for a minimum of $3,600 of their first $5,100 in prescrition medication every year (commonly known as the "donut hole"). The legislation simultaneously forbids the government from negotiating lower drug prices for all seniors, something it currently does for veterans.
Congressman's Hulshof's actions may not be too surprising since, according to www.opensecrets.org, he has accepted over $107,000 from big drug interests.
Rep. Hulshof voted against allowing millions of Americans to save their hard-earned dollars on prescription drugs by re-importing them from Canada, even though these were U.S. made and patient safety was ensured. Vote to allow prescription drug re-importation: HR 2427, Vote #445, 7/25/2003 (he voted no)
Duane Burghard believes that the government should have the right to negotiate drug prices for all seniors the same way it currently does for all veterans. The savings from this change alone should more than cover the expense incurred by closing the "donut hole" which he believes should be closed immediately.
